Sugar Mountain is one of the finest romantic getaways in North Carolina. With its delectable local wineries and pristine mountains, few places capture the imagination and magic of a cozy trip for two with more confidence.
A glass of wine and the snowtop mountains in the background. Below are three incredible wineries near Sugar Mountain for you.
Linville Falls Winery
Linville Falls Winery sits lovingly 3,200 above sea level, and is ushering in a new movement of incredible wine in the Appalachian High Country. They are one of the newest wineries in the area, and part of a small family. They hope to put the region on the map for generations.
You can take part in tasting tours during the summer, from noon to 6 p.m. daily, and during the winter, from noon to 5 p.m., Thursdays through Sundays.
Live music is also a daily staple during the spring, summer, and early fall. Guests can even walk the local wine trail, closing their visit with a taste.
The owners of Linville Falls Winery love nature, and you can see that in their eclectic assortment of raspberries, heirloom apples, pumpkins, as well as their Christmas Tree plantings.
The family team is part of something fresh, not just another mountain winery but a new invigoration of innovative group varieties in a newly-established part of the wine world. While prices are not listed on the website, you can contact the team during opening hours for more details. Reservations are highly recommended and required during the weekends of live music season, from May to October.
Be sure to take a peek at the Linville Caverns when you are in the area. See the splendor of the hidden interior of Humpback Mountain.
Banner Elk Winery
This winery only dates back to 2005, but it was the first commercial winery built in Avery and Watauga counties. Within 10 years of its inception, the winery brought home two Gold Medals at the 2013 International Eastern Wine Competition as well as a Gold Medal at the Banner Elk White.
The winery is a major hub for cultural events. Live music, wine tastings, wine and food pairing dinners, and even workshops have all been part of the Banner Elk Winery staple. Events can also be scheduled for private occasions.
The team also emphasizes special charity events. They stand as a vital component of the community, and a testament to the winery’s dedicated focus on care and love in the grassy knolls of western North Carolina.
The winery is open from noon to 6 p.m. every day. Seasonal hours may change, though the winery villa is open all year round. It is located in downtown banner Elk, 60 Deer Run, Banner Elk, NC 28604.
Don’t forget to explore the local downtown. Banner Elk is burning up in exciting galleries, boutiques, and farms.
