Luckily, there are plenty of Sugar Mountain Halloween events to get you in the spooky mood all throughout the month of October. We’ve put together some of the best things to do that you should check out to make your fall vacation getaway the best one yet.
Oktoberfest at Sugar Mountain
This is one of the Sugar Mountain Halloween events that is most talked about and that people look forward to year after year. Happening at the Sugar Mountain resort on Saturday and Sunday, October 13th and 14th. The 28th annual Oktoberfest will feature music, arts and crafts, chairlift rides, and more. Of course, there will be plenty of Bavarian-style food and drinks for you to dabble in. This is a festival that is fun for the entire family too. It’s the perfect opportunity to take in some gorgeous fall foliage up in the mountains and really get into the autumn holiday spirit. The event is totally free on both days, and activities run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is also free parking and a shuttle as well.
Mountaineer Mystery Tour
This walking ghost tour is one of the fantastic things to do near Boone, North Carolina because it’s happening all month long. Tours run from September 28th through October 27th every Friday and Saturday night and start at 7 p.m., with a second tour at 8:40 p.m. You’ll explore the paranormal and strange happenings of downtown Boone taking you through dark streets, haunting back alleys, and eerie graveyards. You can book tours ahead of time online or in person at the Mysterium Escape Adventure. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students, and $10 for kids 10 and under.
Boone Boo!
Also happening right in Boone, is the annual Boone Boo! This is a wonderful event if you’re looking for something to do right on Halloween and if you are traveling with any children. Make sure to pack your costumes to bring along with you for a ghoul of a good time. The event is from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in downtown Boone at the Watauga County Library on West King Street. It is a big celebration of all things spooky. It will feature games, arts and crafts, tours of the Jones House, and trick-or-treating with some of the downtown merchants.
Blowing Rock Halloween Festival
Just south of Boone you’ll find the town of Blowing Rock and its infamous Halloween Festival. From 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. on October 27th, this free family-friendly event offers games, hayrides, a monster march, trick or treating, and a costume contest. The night is topped off with a scary scavenger hunt for the kids, and an evening showing of Hocus Pocus at the Blowing Rock Elementary School gym.
Ghost Train
If you’re headed to Blowing Rock, you definitely don’t want to miss the spooky Ghost Train at Tweetsie Railroad. The chilling journey takes place all throughout the month of October on Fridays and Saturdays. It’s a scary good time for the whole family that includes the ghost train ride, a haunted house, Halloween shows, a 3-D Maze, and other fun Halloween activities. Gates open at Tweetsie Railroad at 7:30 p.m. each night and admission for adults and children are $38 a person.
